Eating Well on the Paleo Diet

The paleo diet has been in the public eye for the last few years as a great, healthy way to lose a little weight, have more energy and feel great in your body!  What exactly can you eat on this plan, and what foods should be avoided?  Here is a useful guide to how to eat well on the Paleo Diet.

Eat Lots of:

Meat, Fish, Eggs – these provide protein which keeps you full, builds healthy muscle and bones.  Every meal should have a good source of protein, from lean meats to fish and eggs.  Enjoy every day!

Fresh fruits and vegetables – these are essential for health.  They provide vitamins, minerals and essential fibre.  Half your plate should be loaded up with veg each meal, and you can choose fruit as your primary snack!

Nuts and Seeds – these are a good source of healthy fats and are filling as a snack, or on top of salads.  Try a range of nuts to get the best benefits!

Healthy Oils – any nut oils, avocado oil, olive oil and coconut oil are good, and you can happily use animal fats such as goose fat or lard to cook with.

 

Things to Avoid:

Grains – wheat, barley, oats etc.  Any cereal grain which is used as pasta, rice, bread, cereals, wraps etc should be avoided.

Dairy – though some people still consume dairy when following a paleo diet, it is recommended that dairy should be avoided

Processed foods – try to avoid any food which has been processed in factories such as junk foods, canned products, sauces and marinades etc.  Make your own!

Sugar – refined sugar is terrible news for our bodies, causing obesity and other illnesses

Salt – we should try to cut down the amount of salt we add to our foods.
